Temporary Disinfectant Conversion
from Chloramine to Free Chlorine
The NORTH HUNT SUD public water system, (PWS) ID 1160039, will temporarily convert the disinfectant used in the distribution system from chloramine to free chlorine. The conversion will begin on FEBRUARY 1, 2025 and continue through FEBRUARY 28, 2025. During this period, you may experience taste and odor changes associated with this type of temporary disinfectant conversion.
Public water systems are required to properly disinfect their water and maintain an adequate disinfectant residual in the distribution system. Chloramine, free chlorine combined with ammonia, is widely used as a disinfectant because it persists for long periods while also limiting the formation of disinfection by-product contaminants. Prolonged use of chloramine coupled with other factors that can affect water quality, such as high temperatures or stagnation of water, may result in the growth and/or persistence of organic matter within the pipes of the distribution system, which may hinder the ability to maintain an adequate disinfectant residual. A temporary conversion to free chlorine, partnered with flushing activities, helps to rid distribution pipes of this organic matter and improve the quality of your water overall.

North Hunt SUD has chosen to implement a temporary disinfectant conversion to free chlorine based on the following: A”chlorine burn” is often conducted as a preventative maintenance measure to kill bacteria that can make maintenance of disinfection residual problematic. A film can form in the distribution system piping that can contain bacteria which is uses ammonia as a food source. The bacteria in this film is harmless to people. When the water system stops adding ammonia, the bacteria starve. Therefore, a periodic conversion to free chlorine is effective for inactivating these types of bacteria in piping with biofilm by interrupting the supply of ammonia and can also prevent subsequent issues from occurring.
Please share this information with all people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (i.e., people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

NOTICE OF REQUIREMENT TO COMPLY WITH THE SUBDIVISION AND SERVICE
EXTENSION POLICY OF
NORTH HUNT SPECIAL UTILITY DISTRICT
Pursuant to Chapter 13.2502 of the Texas Water Code, North Hunt Special Utility District hereby gives
notice that any person who subdivides land by dividing any lot, tract, or parcel of land, within the service
area of North Hunt Special Utility District, Certificate of Convenience and Necessity No.11206, in
Hunt, Fannin, and Delta Counties, into two or more lots or sites for the purpose of sale or development,
whether immediate or future, including re-subdivision of land for which a plat has been filed and recorded or
requests more than two water or sewer service connections on a single contiguous tract of land must comply
with [put in the title of subdivision service extension policy stated in the tariff/policy] (the "Subdivision
Policy") contained in North Hunt Special Utility District's policy.
North Hunt Special Utility District is not required to extend retail water or sewer utility service to a
service applicant in a subdivision where the developer of the subdivision has failed to comply with the
Subdivision Policy.
Applicable elements of the Subdivision include:
Evaluation by North Hunt Special Utility District of the impact a proposed subdivision service
extension will make on North Hunt Special Utility District's water supply system and payment of the
costs for this evaluation;
Payment of reasonable costs or fees by the developer for providing water supply service capacity;
Payment of fees for reserving water supply capacity;
Forfeiture of reserved water supply service capacity for failure to pay applicable fees;
Payment of costs of any improvements to North Hunt Special Utility District's system that are
necessary to provide the water service;
Construction according to design approved by North Hunt Special Utility District and dedication by
the developer of water facilities within the subdivision following inspection.

service area may be reviewed at North Hunt Special Utility District's offices, at 201B Kings Plaza
Commerce, Texas 75428. The policy and service area map also are filed of record at the Texas
Commission on Environmental Quality in Austin, Texas and may be reviewed by contacting the

Searching NORTHHUNTSUD will take you to a third party billing site that is not us. It says North Hunt Sud/Pay Your Bill Online/doxo.com. They are charging a fee to pay any bills, not just water bills. We have had customers pay through them and the payments are NOT getting to us in a timely manner. We have not approved them as a payment provider, nor were we asked to. If you use that site, and we do not receive your payment, it is your responsibilty if late fees apply.
