Suggested Checklist for Freezing Weather

Dear North Hunt SUD Customers,
We are not sure how severe the weather will be this weekend, but we want to take action to ensure everyone is safe and has access to water. We are working hard to prevent freezes on our end, and we are renting equipment for necessary backup. This is just a list of ideas to help you make it through this storm in case it is as bad as predicted. North Hunt will be passing out cases of water at the office located at 201B Kings Plaza Commerce, Texas 75428. If you are unable to get out of your house before the storm, we will do our best to bring you water before it hits on Friday. The predicted storm is from Friday at 12 pm to Monday. Please understand that our office may also be closed to help keep everyone safe during this time.

Use this checklist to prepare your home for potential water interruptions during the 2026 winter storms. Please know these are only suggestions.
- Water Storage Checklist
- Drinkable Water: Store at least 1 gallon per person and pet per day. Aim for a 3-day minimum, though 14 days is ideal for severe 2026 events.
- Sanitation Water: Fill bathtubs and large buckets (e.g., 5-gallon buckets) for flushing toilets and washing hands.
- Small Containers: Fill spray bottles or jars with water and place them near sinks for quick hand-washing or teeth-brushing.
- Inventory Check: Use food-grade, BPA-free containers for drinking water. Ensure they are labeled and dated.
- Plumbing Protection Checklist
- Insulate Pipes: Wrap exposed pipes in unheated areas (attics, garages, crawl spaces) with foam sleeves or Heat Tape.
- Exterior Faucets: Disconnect hoses, drain the lines, and cover spigots with insulated foam covers.
- Internal Airflow: Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to let warm air circulate around pipes.
- Thermostat: Maintain a temperature of at least 55°F–65°F at all times.
- Drip Faucets: If a freeze is imminent, let the faucet furthest from the main shut-off valve drip slowly to relieve pressure.
- Sanitation & Hygiene Checklist
- Emergency Toilet Kit: Have heavy-duty trash bags, a bucket, and cat litter or sawdust on hand to manage waste if toilets cannot be flushed.
- Disposable Goods: Stock paper plates, plastic utensils, and cups to eliminate the need for dishwashing.
- Hygiene Supplies: Ensure you have baby wipes, hand sanitizer, and dry shampoo.
- Laundry: Complete all laundry and wash all dirty dishes before the storm arrives.
- Emergency Response Actions
- Locate Shut-Off: Verify that everyone in the house knows the location of the main water shut-off valve.
- Tool Readiness: Keep a Wrench or Pliers near the shut-off valve in case it is stuck or requires a tool to turn.
- Burst Pipe Plan: If a pipe bursts, immediately turn off the main valve and the water heater to prevent flooding and heating element damage.

Notice of additional penalty for damage to North Hunt SUD water lines by Excavation/Digging.
North Hunt SUD is not notified when you call 811 for line locates. You will need to contact North Hunt SUD at 903-886-3458 or [email protected].
Pursuant to Chapter 65.207 of the Texas Water Code, North Hunt Special Utility District (NHSUD) hereby gives notice that any person who excavates or digs more than 16 inches deep, within its service area, described as Certificate of Convenience and Necessity No. 11206, located in and around Hunt, Fannin, and Delta Counties, Texas is subject to the following official rules:
Damage to District Water Lines and Facilities Caused by Excavation or Digging. Suppose the District’s facilities or equipment have been damaged in any respect due to excavation, digging, or any other activity that damages the District's water line or facilities. In that case, a fee shall be charged equal to the actual costs for all labor, materials, and equipment necessary for the repair or replacement of the District’s water lines and facilities. In addition to the fee for all labor, materials, and equipment, an automatic penalty of $3,000.00 shall also be assessed and shall apply to each occurrence of a violation of this section. A penalty under this section is in addition to any other penalty or remedy provided by the laws of the State of Texas or this Rate Order.

NOTICE OF REQUIREMENT TO COMPLY WITH THE SUBDIVISION AND SERVICE
EXTENSION POLICY OF
NORTH HUNT SPECIAL UTILITY DISTRICT
Pursuant to Chapter 13.2502 of the Texas Water Code, North Hunt Special Utility District hereby gives
notice that any person who subdivides land by dividing any lot, tract, or parcel of land, within the service
area of North Hunt Special Utility District, Certificate of Convenience and Necessity No.11206, in
Hunt, Fannin, and Delta Counties, into two or more lots or sites for the purpose of sale or development,
whether immediate or future, including re-subdivision of land for which a plat has been filed and recorded or
requests more than two water or sewer service connections on a single contiguous tract of land must comply
with [put in the title of subdivision service extension policy stated in the tariff/policy] (the "Subdivision
Policy") contained in North Hunt Special Utility District's policy.
North Hunt Special Utility District is not required to extend retail water or sewer utility service to a
service applicant in a subdivision where the developer of the subdivision has failed to comply with the
Subdivision Policy.
Applicable elements of the Subdivision include:
Evaluation by North Hunt Special Utility District of the impact a proposed subdivision service
extension will make on North Hunt Special Utility District's water supply system and payment of the
costs for this evaluation;
Payment of reasonable costs or fees by the developer for providing water supply service capacity;
Payment of fees for reserving water supply capacity;
Forfeiture of reserved water supply service capacity for failure to pay applicable fees;
Payment of costs of any improvements to North Hunt Special Utility District's system that are
necessary to provide the water service;
Construction according to design approved by North Hunt Special Utility District and dedication by
the developer of water facilities within the subdivision following inspection.

Commerce, Texas 75428. The policy and service area map also are filed of record at the Texas

Searching NORTHHUNTSUD will take you to a third party billing site that is not us. It says North Hunt Sud/Pay Your Bill Online/doxo.com. They are charging a fee to pay any bills, not just water bills. We have had customers pay through them and the payments are NOT getting to us in a timely manner. We have not approved them as a payment provider, nor were we asked to. If you use that site, and we do not receive your payment, it is your responsibilty if late fees apply.
